Defence Headquarters confirms death of two Nigerian soldiers and 3 Boko Haram members in ambush

  The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has disclosed that two soldiers were killed in an ambush lauched against troops by Boko Haram insurgents on Sunday May 17.   The Coordinator of Defence Media Operations, John Enenche said three members of the terrorist group were also killed in the ambush which occurred when troops of Combat Team 1, Operation Kantana Jimlan were on patrol along Buni Yadi – Buni Gari axis of Yobe State.   Eneche said soldiers encountered multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a Boko Haram ambush which occurred eight kilometres ahead…

Soldiers in trouble for posing naked on Red Arrows jet while on Coronavirus testing duty (photos)

Three British soldiers on Covid-19 testing duty have gotten themselves into trouble for posing naked on a Red Arrow jet next to a memorial to two dead airmen.   The Red Arrows jet is parked next to a plaque marking the deaths of Flight Lieutenants Jon Egging and Sean Cunningham, who died in separate accidents in 2011.   Colour Sergeant ‘Tats’ Taylor, posted X-rated pictures on Facebook of himself with Corporal Shane Woods and Private Anthony Panton posing on a Red Arrows jet after a boozy party.   The 49-year-old captioned the…

Nigerian soldiers in gun battle with Boko Haram at Borno military base

Men of the Nigerian Army stationed in Mainok, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, are currently in a gunfight with some Boko Haram insurgents.   According to residents, the insurgents entered the village around 7pm, shooting sporadically, and made their way to the military base where shooting has been ongoing for hours as the insurgents fight with the troops.   The troops engaging the insurgents are from the army’s 29 battalion task force in Mainok. Sources said villagers are still scampering for safety.

Nigerian Army allegedly suspends voluntary retirement of soldiers

The Nigerian army has reportedly suspended approvals for voluntary retirement requests from soldiers, over the alleged mass application by several military personnel to quit service.   In an internal memo which was sent out in late March and made available to Premium Times, the Nigerian army disclosed that all forms 9B (military retirement application document) have been suspended and would no longer be made available to soldiers willing to voluntarily discharge from service.   Though the number of voluntary retirement applications the Nigerian army has gotten so far was not revealed in the memo, top…
